- Forward Head Posture:
– Description: Head juts forward beyond the shoulders, often caused by prolonged computer or phone use.
– Effects: Leads to neck and shoulder pain, tension headaches, decreased lung capacity, and increased anxiety.
– Studies: Sustained forward head posture may be associated with an increase in our sympathetic nervous system response. This means our body may overreact to stressors and/or distort its response to normal stimuli, creating an unnecessary stress response.
- Rounded Shoulder*:
– Description: Shoulders slump forward, often due to poor sitting habits or weak upper back muscles.
– Effects: Causes upper back pain, restricted chest expansion, and contributes to a hunched appearance.
- Anterior Pelvic Tilt:
– Description: Pelvis tilts forward, creating an exaggerated curve in the lower back.
– Effects: Results in lower back pain, tight hip flexors, and weakened abdominal muscles.
- Sway Back:
– Description: Hips push forward, causing the upper back to lean backward.
– Effects: Leads to lower back pain, weak core muscles, and an imbalanced stance.
